A new creature, and a new transformation come with this version.
It is a very odd (maybe scary for some people) one that was written by me.
I also drew the creature graphic, much to my own surprise.
Only the one major mechanic to discuss.
Every 5th Floor
So in this version your "maximum depth" is only recorded every 5 floors. Meaning you can't start on any floor higher than 1 until you reach 5. This is so that a Game Over is more impactful, and so that players can not load the game, start of their best floor, and grab the stairs down right away to increase it.
In the future I will be making this more restricting even. I plan to have No Hunger and Pushover combat lock floor unlocks entirely, but not just yet.
Was this new enemy in the previous build, by chance? If so, love her! I could hug her all day!
ReplyDeleteNo, she is brand new to this update. I don't know if it's the enemy you saw though, because the new one isn't very cuddly.
DeleteTo the Anon that posted the bugs/suggestions:
ReplyDeleteI corrected everything and used every suggestion, they were all pretty simple.
I declined the comment because it had some spoilers.
Also I want to destroy all records of my typos.
lol, np
ReplyDeleteI'll try to make vague references to spolier-like material next time :)
Question/Advice: I'm interested in doing some monster creation for the game, however, while the monster design itself is pretty simple to understand, I have no clue on how to format the transformation scenes. This talk of stages and different parts and different genders is really confusing. Is there a possibility of a rewrite of the submission in the near future, perhaps with a full example?
ReplyDeleteI may post one of the in game transformations as an example soon.
DeleteA "Stage" is one transformation. One combat loss. It's the bulk chunk of text you get as well as the changing of different body parts.
Some stages only work for a single gender, but both genders need a 'version' if that is the case that changes the same parts.
I am currently attempting to rewrite the Rat Transformation (it's very weak for the first one in the game), and since it appears so early on in the adventure, I see no harm is posting it here as an example.
DeleteHello again,
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd throw in some feedback on v.15. I'm absolutely loving the game thus far, but there are a couple of mechanics that could use some tweaking.
The All-seeing crown needs to activate significantly less often. Having it trigger as many as 7 times in twenty steps can be quite distracting as the animation goes off in rapid succession. It'd be preferable to have it go off at least every tenth step, preferably between 15 and 20 steps.
The transformation text for the avian form needs to be revised to account for most of the changes being poison induced instead of trap induced.
Holding down the spacebar to expedite rogue combat was a fantastic implementation, but I've noticed a few instances that in the split second after the killing blow, I will still be attacking once more. Usually nothing goes awry, but if I miss that attack and am at low health, I have suffered a transformation as a result.
I've had several instances of creatures spawning off map where they will wander aimlessly. When I first saw them there, I thought it was a hidden area that was only accessible with a Mining Scroll. While that did not end up being the case, it would be kind of neat to have certain areas be restricted like that. provided you could not be randomly teleported into them by traps or potions.
Also, I want to commend you on one of the many subtle touches you put into this work, particularly the name choice of a certain amphibious cocktail. Well done!
Keep up the great work.
Sincerely yours,
F.V.
Nerfed the crown. I was considering that anyways.
DeleteRewrote the "avian" lines.
Might have fixed that final roll bug.
I have tried and failed to fix the off map enemies a million times but it is far harder than it seems. Will keep trying.
At this rate the next patch will just be a bunch of polish.
